This free course provides an overview of both federal and state fair housing laws, and it identifies the most common forms of housing discrimination. Its purpose is to help prevent discrimination in rental housing. The information is ideally suited for anyone unfamiliar with the fair housing laws and the serious consequences of fair housing violations. Offered nine times as a public service of local government, fair housing organizations and RHA where you can view locations and dates.

Course Description
This free course provides an overview of both federal and state fair housing laws and identifies the most common forms of housing discrimination. Its purpose is to help prevent discrimination in rental housing

The material is ideally suited for anyone new to the rental housing industry or unfamiliar with the fair housing laws and the serious consequences of fair housing violations. This course explains the federal and state protected classes of individuals, as well as prohibited activities and the most common fair housing mistakes. Topics include steering, disparate impact, occupancy standards, hostile housing environment, disability discrimination, reasonable accommodations and modifications for the disabled, medical marijuana, and written rental criteria.

The course is a public service of the County of Sacramento, City of Sacramento, City of Citrus Heights, City of Elk Grove, City of Rancho Cordova, Sacramento Self-Help Housing, Legal Services of Northern California, Project Sentinel, and Rental Housing Association of Sacramento Valley. These local governments and organizations support the Renters Helpline, a free service for renters seeking information and assistance regarding rental housing issues.
